Our Events
Our community is our top priority, and we have range of ministries that cater to different age groups and needs. Our aim is to provide spiritual guidance, support, and a sense of community to all who seek it. We invite you to join us in spreading love and compassion to everyone.
Backpacks
One of our biggest service initiatives is the Backpack Project. Over several weeks, we gathered items, and wow, did they arrive! We gathered ponchos, water bottles, hats, gloves, toiletries, and first aid supplies. We even collected a few snacks.
Instead of the 60 bags we planned to fill, we could fill 72! There was also a fantastic turnout for stuffing the backpacks! We had assistance from Deacon Wayne and Father Larry and our sisters, friends, and children. After being packed, the backpacks were given to the Cherokee County Homeless Veterans Organization, which then distributed them to the homeless veterans in the area.
Parish Picnic
The Columbiettes have to be in the game booths since fall is in the air. The parish hosted their yearly Parish Gathering, complete with hayrides, a petting zoo, and hot dogs. This year, the Columbiettes sponsored two game booths: their traditional ring toss game and a new goldfish game, where the kids won only fake goldfish, much to the delight of the parents! The games were popular. We ended up giving out over 400 prizes and had a lot of returning players. We would like to express our gratitude to everyone who came to staff the gaming booths and to those who assisted with setup and breakdown. A particular thank you to everyone who dressed up! You all looked fantastic!
Sew-A-Thon
Our Multi-Purpose Room is filled with the sounds of laughter and sewing machines. Sisters come together to create prayer blankets for people in need of healing. We complete sewing and packing over 50 prayer blankets before the end of the evening. No worries if you can't sew, we take runners, ironers, turners and packers and we always look forward to the next sew-a-thon.
Tutu's & Tiaras
The Columbiettes come together for an evening of fun and laughter. Dressed in our finery and favorite tiaras, a princess theme is carried out with pink punch, pink sprinkle cookies and cupcakes, and other pink treats. Sisters spend the evening making tutus for children in the local hospitals. There is tulle everywhere, in a rainbow of colors, so sisters are able to create the perfect tutu to lift a little girl's spirit. We have such a great turnout and an even better tutu total - over 100 are created!
Breakfast with the Easter Bunny
The Family Center comes alive with the sound of excited children’s voices. Bunny pancakes, bacon, fruit, and juice are on the menu. Sisters assist children with games, crafts face painting and other fun activities as each child awaits their turn to visit with the Easter Bunny. It is a fun morning for all who attend!
Ice Cream Social & Initiation
What a fun day! We begin with an initiation ceremony for new sisters who joined the auxiliary and members of St. Catherine's former auxiliary transferring into ours. We are honored to include several special guests, including the Georgia State Deputy, the Grand Knight, the Deputy Grand Knight, and their wives. The ceremony is always followed by an old-fashioned ice cream social, complete with hot fudge and all the fixins. Many existing members also attend to welcome our new sisters and help kick off another fun year of friendship and service! Welcome to all our new sisters!
Blue Mass
The auxiliary hosts a special Blue Mass for all first responders - Law Enforcement, Fire Fighters, and EMTs. The mass is held to honor and pray for the first responders and to thank them for their service. A special wreath is brought in and gifts are taken up by first responders and their families. The Columbiettes and Knights provide a joint honor guard and sisters hand out knotted rosaries and thank you cards to all attending first responders. It truly is a special event to honor our heroes.
Rosary Ministry
The Rosary Ministry makes hundreds of rosaries a month, with many sisters making them while at home. Our rosaries go to the church, local ministries, and ministries around the world.
Many other events the Columbiettes host or assist with are Dinner Auctions, Parish Spaghetti Dinner, Breakfast with Santa and many other activities that serve the mission of the church and those in the community.
